Anita & James Worden

Anita and James Worden have balanced a strict set of preservation restrictions with energy sustainability in their own home and using it as a model for other "Old Houses" and historic structures.  

The Reverend Bailey Loring House, built circa 1818, has been home to the Worden Family for twenty years. The building is historically and architecturally significant and is nestled in former farm fields which are now a conservation reserve maintained by The Trustees of Reservations. The house is protected by an Historic New England preservation easement, one of 100 homes in the program. Over the years the Wordens have made significant improvements to the property, which is powered by solar electricity and kept comfortable via geothermal heat. Anita and James have helped pioneer a happy balance between the past and the present.
