Stevens CENTER
We’re making History - Join us!
Our mission is to create a vibrant place where the North Andover Historical Society partners with our community to connect through historical exhibits, education, and community events. Our goal is to make the Stevens Center a dynamic, experiential community space to celebrate North Andover’s history.
Educational Programs
The two-hour morning programs usually run for several days a week during late October through mid-November and then again in late May and early June. The dates and time commitments are varied so we should be able to accommodate volunteer schedules. Even a commitment of one morning a year would be most welcome. All classes are accompanied by their teachers and adult chaperones. We provide the training.
Through a Child’s Eyes: Daily Life at Johnson Cottage
Volunteers would work hands-on with children as they learn how to churn butter and experience 19th-century life in the Johnson Cottage. Other units may include designing a quilt, investigating 19th-century clothing, or going to school.
Looking for the Past: Local history all around us
We offer several multi-part programs including an in-classroom presentation providing a brief overview of the town’s history, and a field trip to the Old Center that features the 1825 Hay Scales Building, a walking tour based on map skills, experiencing an early classroom and jobs in Mr. Johnson’s time.
Other Volunteer Needs
Our volunteer needs are not limited to educational programming, we also welcome those interested in event planning, collection management, historic preservation, and conservation as well as those interested in giving tours.
